Abstract

With increasing life expectancy and the growing number of people with chronic diseases, the need for palliative care intensifies, as its focus is on promoting and enhancing the quality of life of both patients and their families. The overall objective is to investigate and break the limited view of palliative care as synonymous with death, recognizing from a new perspective the importance of comprehensive care in promoting the quality of life of patients with serious, chronic illnesses, at all stages of the disease. Through specific objectives, such as: a) exploring the concepts of palliative care and their presentation in relation to the rights to comprehensive health; b) examining the traditional and comprehensive view of death in palliative care; c) assessing the impacts that palliative care has on patients' quality of life. This is a literature review based on research and analysis of existing data from the literature, including sources from databases, journals, university platforms, and books. The articles analyzed during the study were selected between 2019 and 2025. The impact of palliative care on patients is multifaceted, and this approach seeks to ensure a better quality of life and comprehensive healthcare as a right. One of the fundamental points of this comprehensive care process is to emphasize a full life until the end, rather than prolonging life at any cost.
