200 Years of Religious Freedom in Brazil:
from the Empire Constitution to the Citizen Constitution, a right to be celebrated

With this article we intend to analyze the path of the constitutional guarantee of religious freedom throughout the History of Brazil, from the Constitution of the Empire of 1824 to the present day, before the Federal Constitution of 1988. In this analysis, the the fact that the Brazilian State was secular or confessional at that historical moment and how much this impacts the constitutional provision of this important guarantee for the development of Brazilian society in a plural and syncretistic way, as it is structured. It is important to highlight that this analysis covers a historical period of 200 years, starting with the granting of the Constitution of the Empire on March 25, 1824 to the present date, year 2024.
