Democracy and blockchain technology:

an analysis of national production from Google Scholar

Abstract

This study analyzes articles published in peer-reviewed Brazilian journals that specifically deal with democracy and blockchain technology. It aims to highlight the recurring themes of the selected articles, as well as the legal issues addressed, so that it is possible, in the end, to present an overview of national scientific research. The research was conducted through indirect documentation, as it focuses on published scientific texts that are freely available for consultation. Regarding its nature, the undertaken research seeks to generate new knowledge for practical application, characterizing itself as applied research, addressing its object in both quantitative ways (construction of the corpus with support from the Publish or Perish computer program) and qualitative ways. The search was conducted in the Google Scholar database due to it being the largest freely accessible database, with the current research focusing on national literature on the topic, with a temporal scope from 2019 to 2023. As an initial criterion, any text that did not expressly refer to democracy in its title was discarded, as well as only those texts that had the term blockchain among their keywords were analyzed. Finally, the resulting texts were analyzed in a descriptive manner aiming to synthesize the produced knowledge, classifying it in terms of recurrence and central concern.
